User-centric Design: An Approach to Reducing Environmental Impact.
With our developing understanding to the extent of the stresses that we are placing upon our planet, we are gradually increasing our efforts to tackle some of the issues that are concerned with the growing threat that is extreme climate change.
Particularly within western civilisation, we are aware of how certain aspects of our lifestyles are directly related to the detrimental impacts upon the environment. Certain environmental matters are dealt with by higher authorities through punitive measures. However, there are other areas where we can have a helping hand, but these rely on the individual.
Unfortunately, not every person feels inclined for one reason or another, to reduce their environmental impact where possible. Some reasoning can be attributed to lack of understanding, habitual behaviour, and a perspective of nonchalance towards participating in such exercises. However, there are other limiting factors that can prevent those who are actively willing to partake.
Bearing this in mind, Agouti Design, a small design consultancy based in Devon, has recently been looking to tackle an ongoing problem related to the amount of household waste that is sent to landfill. Despite many local authorities enthusiastically working towards reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill, Agouti Design Devon has taken an approach that addresses an underlying problem that stems from the user.
Having studied typical household factors including living spaces and waste disposal trends, Agouti Design Devon has come up with a product design concept that radically tackles the common issues that users currently have with waste disposal. The idea incorporates a spatially efficient method of disposal that would not normally be achieved by having the same amount of bins, whilst providing the user with great ease of operation, and having the potential to enhance the way in which waste and recyclates are currently collected.
Agouti Design Devon and their product design concept is one of many innovative ways in which environmental issues may need to be addressed in future to create an ergonomic and effective transition to a more environmentally pro-active existence.

Agouti Design in Devon have been working on a their own office as a Landscape design & build project in Chudleigh. Design work always used to be inside the premises but we can now work in peace in the garden.

Agouti Design in Devon have recently helped the kids at Saltash Community College inspire and develop some of their product design concepts during their experts day. A group of 7 experts from various business fields (marketing, events, business, product design, graphic design, branding design and PR) came together on the 15th to help the children realise their business potential with the hope to obtain business backing for the chosen concept.

Our Devon Designers have been set another landscape design & build project, this time, in their home town of Chudleigh. The client has specified a green theme, which suits us to the ground! -Raised vegetable patches, planting schemes that give privacy but do not compromise sunlight and possibly even a small water feature. The small plot belongs to a terraced house in a rural area of Chudleigh and should pose quite a challenge for our designers when considering the requirements. The concept is being finalised this week and then we will be drawing up the garden plan soon after. Watch this space! Below is the plot at the time of the design consultancy work.

Our Devon Designers have been at it again, we've organised meetings with patent attourneys next week to discuss the new product development for our innovative furniture range with the intention of applying for a patent and then commercially exploiting the new product potential. We’ve made some real progress with our household waste design project thanks to the help from all who took part in our Household Waste Survey. We hope to be finalising the concept very soon and then starting the proof of principle prototype (PPP) in order to test the design theory, so we may be calling on a few of those who have helped us with the survey. Of late we've been designing a few new products. One is a new household waste system to try and reduce the amount of waste we throw into landfill. We went on a trip to visit Teignbridge recycling, composting and landfill sites to get up close and personal with our household waste. Here is a sneaky preview into what we saw!

In the world of web design, we've been busy creating a new look for Fabien's enhanced hypnotherapy website. Fabien came to us frustrated with web designers. To be quite honest we agree, web designers can be very frustrating. We decided to cut to the chase and redesign Fabien's site without all the technical complexities and with clean functionality.
